By his shiny blue jacket shalt thou recognize him: Oskar Dawicki, one of contemporary Polish art's most unique players. Here, Dawicki plays Oskar, with his mentor Zbigniew Warpechowski appearing in the role of Zbigniew Warpechowski. All of which doesn't mean that The Performer is a documentary or even a mockumentary (Agata Buzek, for example, is not an art dealer), even if many of the things we learn about Dawicki are fact-based. It's a game the directorial duo Sobieszczanski & Ronduda (how appropriate for a Janus-faced project!) play with Dawicki (mind the double entendre). Maybe it's only thanks to this ploy that they can talk more or less frankly about the way art is created, sold and discussed these days - we can always claim it's just a story.
