Willem, Jacques and Chris, about 16 years old, are best friends. They live in the Dutch bulb area, where villages, fields and meadows border upon the dunes and the beach. Their life is like that of so many country kids, but a dramatic accident changes everything. When the three of them are on a tractor, Jacques ends up underneath it while Willem is at the wheel. Willem wonders deep down whether his jealousy of Jacques, who the evening before made off with Marianne, had anything to do with the accident. But he can't talk to anyone about it. In the bulb fields, no one likes long conversations.
De Cloe’s tragic yet also almost fairytale-like romantic second full-length feature makes optimal use of the colour and the light of Holland in summer. The original screenplay by Céline Linssen gives plenty of freedom to a choice selection of young Dutch actors.
