A dead body is washed ashore. Nobody knows the identity of the person. A group of policemen are questioning people in the picturesque villages of Kerala. Three young women, from different backgrounds and religions, different mindsets and life aspirations, are claiming the body as their husband's. Through the passionate memories of their intimate, warm relationship, each of the women unfolds a piece of life of Kutty Srank, the late local boat navigator, who appears to have been married to three women on three different islands.
Casting the leading South Indian mainstream star Mammothy in the main role was an excellent choice. His dominant presence, even in rather silent sequences, emanates an intensive roar from within, which colours the mood of the whole film. The impressive photography in this lyrical tale that touches elements of magic realism was done by a female director of photography, Anjali, for the first time in Malayali cinema.
