In Dissonant, Manon de Boer films the dancer Cynthia Loemij. She improvises to Eugène Ysaÿe’s 3 Sonates for Violin Solo, a work of which she has strong memories. The camera motion is interrupted by a material element of time, namely the limitation of the length of a three-minute roll of film. As the dance goes on and we hear sounds of it on the soundtrack, the picture is black during the time, about a minute, it takes to load the camera.
