Once again former Tiger Award winner Larisa Sadilova masterfully observes the psychology of simple men. Her fourth film, Nothing Personal, is based on her own script and contains elements of a detective story, voyeurism, suspense and passion.
Private detective Zimin receives an assignment to keep an apartment under observation. Having safely mounted the bugs and cameras, he begins to observe a middle-aged pharmacist, Irina. Step by step, he delves into her private life. He gets to know her emotional and intimate secrets and becomes more and more interested in them. Irina’s life fascinates him and fills in the emptiness of his own dull life and marriage. Just when he starts wondering why it is Irina he has to spy on, he finds out that he has made a mistake and the cameras should have been placed in the apartment next to hers. What he finds in the ‘right’ apartment is a cheap blonde and her lover - a nouveau riche man who most probably wants to secure his treasure only for himself. Zimin follows the life of this true subject of his assignment, the blonde, but cannot stop thinking of Irina who has become an influential part of his real life. His wife suspects something, but nevertheless Zimin decides to make contact with the lonesome and melancholic Irina. (LC)
