A film that makes its own rules right from the very start. And that starts with the title. The microscope in question has a crack in the lens and this makes it much more suitable to keep an eye on the reality of the Tartar city of Kazan. The high point is a quest that got out of hand by three determined chaps looking for an apparently invisible cricket hidden in a soft drink machine. Of course the machine gets broken. And then that endlessly returning, melancholy synthesiser melody... A small fire finally puts an end to it. We Will See Kazan in the Broken Microscope is very disconcerting work, the kind that apparently can only get made in Russia.
