Slow Days is a drama collage structured as a mosaic. It tracks twenty (real) individuals connected by friendship, family ties, or not connected at all. The makers portray people who are, like people everywhere, collectors of unfulfilled dreams.
Martin is just back home after visiting his father in Switzerland and suffers from insomnia. His bad habits irritate his mother Martina. Martina herself cannot wait to leave the country and visit her husband. Martin spends time drinking in a pub and helps the waitress re-arrange the furniture. Sanja is their neighbour who has returned to Croatia to live with her grandparents after living in Germany for a few years. Her grandparents’ everyday routine life gets on her nerves. Tamara, her cousin, has won a poetry contest - and then there are Matija, Stepan, Alen, Andrea and many more.
In this film there is no division between leading and supporting characters. What connects all of them is the fact that they are not happy with their lives. They are wasting their time complaining, a phenomenon also quite common in the new free-market economy countries. It took the makers years to finish their work; countless hours of shooting and waiting. The result is a collective work of all the enthusiastic friends and a truly independent work of art. (LC)
