In his drawings the Rotterdam artist Van der Eerden evolved from outsider-like art to a more controlled formal language. For this exhibition he (re)creates a big mural drawing and covers another wall with his smaller drawings. Van der Eerden operates with careful precision. His aim is to create powerful, focused images, icons. His concentrated visual grammar would indeed be suited to produce logos or similar eye-catchers with an extremely image-aware, commercial environment. In a way, Van der Eerden is the catalyst of contemporary visual culture, but in a subversive sense. He often evokes brutal, primal scenes from which all civilized norms are banned.
