‘In the last 10 years, I have made all my films in the darkroom. Instead of filming with the camera, found footage is placed directly on the unexposed film and then really it frame by frame with the aid of a variety of light sources, such as the torch or a laser pointer. Of course this very crafted production process leaves tracks on the images. In other words, you can see from the films they were made by hand. That's my own reaction to the gradual disappearance of plastic film, to the threatening demise of film stock, to the replacement of a strip of film by the digitally generated moving image of the computer. In the lecture, my film Instructions for a Light and Sound Machine will be analysed closely.’ (Peter Tscherkassky)
