A rain storm precedes the annually held Rose Parade in Pasadena, but doesn’t prevent celebrators from going sidewalk camping under self-made shelters. Visual parallels between this ‘tent city’ and recent American tragedies such as 9-11 and Katrina are easily drawn. Kraning creates an unsettling vision of America on the brink of impending disaster.
