Remains of residues from all manners of processes generated by human activity form raw materials for artist Javier Pérez Aranda. For the installation Science Friction, he collected leftovers from scientific processes and, in collaboration with composer Francisco Lopez, created a sound piece based on 'residual noises' - sound that evolves and mixes itself live during the exhibition. Science Friction points to the means with which the artist comes into contact with science, creating work that experiments with the eminently functional language of science, but avoiding the basic functions of science, such as informing or explaining. In this installation, the elements of scientific language are divested of their explanatory function and transformed into a reflection on the aesthetics of functionality. Alongside this work, V2_ is exhibiting Devmap, conceived by the digital art collective Workspace Unlimited. Devmap explores new zones of real-time communication and exchange, while reworking and reprocessing textures, sounds, images and flows of information from last year's Dutch Electronic Art Festival (DEAF04).
