Bologna Centrale began as a radio piece for France Culture, broadcast in March 2003, and is a kind of film diary, a retrospective autobiography, a sort of sentimental documentary about the late 1970s in Italy. The film also explores the country's political history during the period when it was stricken by terrorism. It is conceived as a piece of present-day reportage, confronting the film maker's historical memoir with his own cultural life and affairs of the heart: a chronicle of images and sounds recorded in the places described. A protean work, Bologna Centrale exemplifies what Vincent Dieutre describes as a form of nomadism: `You write, you shoot video, go to see dance, plays, you listen to music, etcetera. I think it has become impossible to talk exclusively from "the point of view of film", from "the point of view of literature". Our era is fascinating in that it is made up of quotes, re-treads, round trips and interpenetrations between various disciplines.'
