A single screen adaptation of Isaac Julien's Documenta XI video tryptich, its title and dialogue taken in part from a poem by Derek Walcott. Although Julien's films continue to grow in expense and complexity, his work has enough deep empathy and poetry, not to mention an absence of conventional narrative, to make the distinction with Hollywood merchandise. His new work explores the emblematic search for 'the new life' promised by the West.
