Rotterdam, een ongemakkelijk sprookje

A frame story that can be placed between The Tales of a Thousand and One Nights and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The stories are not so much about Rotterdam as a collection of houses and buildings, but about the people of Rotterdam who live, work and try to enjoy themselves there. The thread linking it together is the story of two women who live for a year at different places in the city, observe strange events and have encounters with all kinds of people without any clear aim or reason. On one occasion it is unmistakably Schouten and Kranendonk making an interview, on another occasion they are two crazy women playing a scene. The strange thing is that the interviews, because they are improvised and have a high nonsense level, seem fictional, while the acted scenes are sometimes so credible that you could believe them to be real. This tension continues to intrigue right up to the end. The great variety of scenes, the curious selection of Rotterdammers, the dry humour, the room that has been left open for chance and the erotic elements also contribute to ensuring that the viewer does not have to be bored for a moment.
