Not much happens in the world of Elena. At least, not in her real world, in which she is married to the corrupt and hard-boiled businessman Enrique. In her digital fantasy world however, she is a liberated heroine, who is desired by the most attractive of men. In the meantime, Enrique is two-timing his wife with Rita, a pretty cabaret starlet. At her work, Rita regularly boasts about her rich lover and this gives two of her colleagues the idea of kidnapping the man. On the day they put their plans into practice, Elena receives a video at home showing her husband in a passionate embrace with Rita. And in Enrique's office, his secretary and her admirer find out that the boss is involved in some very dubious affairs.En el pais de no pasa nada is a charming comedy, made according to a tried and tested recipe of a rapid succession of absurd misunderstandings and incredible blunders. For instance, Elena thinks her young rival is a talented actress hired by her husband to make her jealous. And the two kidnappers of Enrique are so inexperienced and nervous, that they do not manage to cash in on the bank cards of their victims. Yet the film is more than just funny: Maria Del Carmen De Lara obviously included a message. Enrique personifies everything that is evil in Latin America: he is untrue, corrupt, greedy and merciless (he sales contaminated milk powder to the poor population). And the film eventually settles up rigorously with evil.
