On a long gallery wall, very large Paris street scenes are projected side by side, that only differ slightly from each other. In this installation, themes such as repetition, change and incompleteness are touched on by portraying similar scenes time and again, with actors mingling with passers-by. Pierre Bismuth (1963) trained as a visual artist. Since 1992 he has held regular one-man exhibitions, recently at Galerie Mot & Van den Boogaard, Brussels (1998 and 2000), Galerie Yvon Lambert, Paris 1999 and has participated in many important group shows including Film/Video works at the Lisson Gallery, London (2000). Fascinated by duration and unfolding processes he has made moving-image installations that relate to cinema in different ways, some drawing on the use of actors, subtitles or the interaction between sound and image, others such as Post Script (The Passenger) (1996) and The Party (1997) making explicit reference to original films.
