A digital film in all respects. The Last Broadcast was shot by the duo Avalos and Weiler on digital video, edited on a fairly standard PC and then sent to various cinemas all over America by satellite link. This made a film print unnecessary. It is also the intention that the film will reach the Rotterdam screen by satellite. This approach made it possible for the makers to complete the film on a very low budget. In dramatic terms, the film has the form of a fake documentary. A locally popular duo (played by the film-makers themselves) that makes the programme Fact or Fiction for local TV, heads off into the forests of New Jersey to report live on a satanic legend. Two fans they met on the Internet go with them as assistants. Only one of the four returns alive, withthe blood of the others on his clothes. The survivor is automatically blamed for the gruesome murders of the other three. However when he dies in mysterious circumstances in jail, the film-maker David Leigh decides to investigate thoroughly and to go through the material shot by the TV makers with a fine toothed comb.Leigh's so-called film is made up of a collage of fake archive material. The film is not just a technical novelty, but also a refreshing satire on reality television.
