Solange is director and mother of a little daughter. She has a mediocre sex life with her husband, but with the bisexual actor Jim she experiences many amorous moments, two or three every evening. However Solange yearns for passionate, blind love. Then she meets Bruno, a director like herself, and falls madly in love with him. They impose a very strict schedule of encounters and untiringly play 'the first time'. Like a dream that they want to experience again the next night. Slowly Solange subjects herself completely to her sanctimonious, dishonourable and cunning lover. But the break is not long in coming. This chronicle of a merciless and destructive passion between two people looking for themselves also shows the desperation of a generation off the rails. The seventies generation, unhappy and dissatisfied with itself. The two characters develop a heartless language in which the word love is taboo, but that does assume the presence of feelings for each other. He torments and dazes her. She cries and is torn apart.Catherine Breillat: 'This is a film about desire and seduction. The heroine keeps going to the limits of her desires. She repeatedly seeks new experiences, because desire soon fades.' (J.D.)
