'Kollek has a penchant for features about vulnerable women. Earlier the Israeli director involved himself as a 'father confessor' in the lives of prostitutes in New York City, but these documentary-like films did not go much deeper than the question 'What's a nice girl like you doing in a job like this?' With Sue, Kollek provides a nice surprise. Again he introduces us to a tormented woman, but this time his portrait is not superficial or rancid. Sue is the most unforgettable and striking female lead of 1998. This is largely thanks to the devastating performance by Anna Thomson, a wonderful actress with a stunningly mournful gaze. It remains puzzling why this woman, who seems to have everything, can't manage to keep her head above water. Kollek doesn't give an answer, for the simple reason that there isn't one.'
