No Trains No Planes is inspired by the novella Broederweelde by Jean-Paul Franssens. The story is formed by a mosaic of events that takes place within one day at one place: the rather desolate but monumental Café Centraal on a square by the station. The bar is visited by waiting travellers, but also has its own group of regulars. The film is about these people. With an eye for detail and much irony, the adventures are related of Gerard (Dirk van Dijck), who on this day says goodbye to his brother, the 'charm singer' Mario Russo (Gène Bervoets); of the owner of Café Centraal and his daughter (Henri Garcin and Katja Schuurman); of the couple Coby and Ton (Leny Breederveld and Aat Ceelen); of Benny (Peer Mascini); of 'no-no' Jacques (Kees Prins) and last but not least of Paula (Ellen ten Damme), who Gerard would like to do it with sometime on this day. There are also roles by Dominique Horwitz and Victor Löw and a guest appearance by the Dutch country & western star Ilse DeLange. The script is by HansHeesen and Jos Stelling. The film was shot in the summer of 1998 in the Blue Horse Studios in Rotterdam.
