Four young inhabitants of Jakarta in the nineties. They all try to realise their dreams and strive for their share of happiness. The conditions in their lives sometimes force them to make radical choices.Aksan has a great dream: he wants to make a film. All he needs is money. His father is a wealthy businessman, but refuses to support him; he doesn't want his son to become a film-maker. So Aksan decides to steal the money he needs from his father. André is a young, unhappy musician. A soothsayer has predicted a lucky turn for him. While he awaits his fate, he hears that his idol Kurt Cobain has committed suicide. Dina, who sells cinema tickets, can no longer distinguish delusion from reality. Life is a dream for her, full of television images of a popular video-jockey. Lastly Lina works for an advertising agency and is pressed by her boss to work overtime. One evening she is raped in the office. She decides to take the law into her own hands.Big-city life in modern Jakarta is a dynamic and alienating experience in Kuldesak, drenched in neon light and bright colours. The film sometimes looks on the surface like a comedy, but the tragedy of loneliness and impotence is much stronger.
