When Tucker Harding, a writer of hard-boiled stories, goes out the door one day in 1953 to get some coffee, she is transported in a mysterious way to the year 1997. She wanders the East Village in New York dazedly and bumps into Drew, a crazy lady with self-destructive tendencies who is desperately trying to find her car so she can flee the city. Towards evening, Tucker's life has taken more bizarre turns than she could ever have written down. The relationship between Drew and Tucker, a capricious mixture of mistrust and desire, is further complicated by the arrival of Isaac, one of Tucker's henchmen from the fifties who explains that Tucker and Drew are timefreaks: as a consequence of the post-H-bomb mutation of their soul, they are able to travel spontaneously and often uncontrollably through time. Then Tucker is murdered and Drew has to unravel the web of love, time and betrayal...Hilary Brougher: 'With this film, I wanted to use science fiction in a way that was character driven and that would transform familiar neighbourhoods into spaces ripe with metaphysical possibility.'
