Seventy-year-old Pierre Henry is regarded as the godfather of electronic music and as one of the inventors of modern dance music. His innovation was 'musique concrete', that with the electronic manipulation of 'found sound' was a precursor to present-day sampling. Henry has been active for forty years composing soundtracks for films and music for theatre and ballet performances. At this festival he is performing his composition with Dziga Vertov's classic Russian film The Man with the Camera. Vertov's masterpiece, one of the most influential exercises in film history, is a silent black & white film, but in its tempo and editing it is also a kind of MTV video clip. The composition by Pierre Henry is as energetic, poetic, magic and powerful as the film.
