A day in the life of a man who, after an absence of thirty years, returns with his son to the place where he grew up: Liévin, in Northern France. He is a comic whose act is based on self-mockery and his own sexual insecurity. The idea is that he should be the celebrity guest opening and compèring a one-night cultural festival in Liévin. With a wonderful role by Jackie Berroyer and an excellent cast in the supporting roles, Christian Vincent tells a story that will certainly appeal to the festival audience, but also has great potential beyond. Vincent brilliantly captures the mood of a small festival with its unreliable guests, hangers on and an attractive festival organiser who takes the comic along on a hilarious visit to his childhood home. The power of the film is not just the humour, but above all the irony and the sharpness of the emotional condition of the comic, who masks his emotional weakness with a façade of sureness and humour bordering on the obsessive. Je ne vois pas ce qu'on me trouve is an example of the so-called petit film that the French are so good at making: witty, observant and elegantly made and acted for all its productional modesty.
