There are documentary film- and television-makers in Holland who have the desperate feeling that their discipline has been made incalculably ridiculous; so much so that they cannot respectably continue working the way they do. The reason is the quality and popularity of the satirical fake-documentary series (also described as quasi-realistic docu-dramas) by the humorist Arjan Ederveen and his director Pieter Kramer. With great feeling for detail and for the absurd, in two series of seven episodes, many documentary clichés and hackneyed reporting issues have been brilliantly ridiculed. Of the fourteen parts (that have already been screened on TV in Holland) three have been chosen (and subtitled in English) to show an international audience that the fake genre has a worthy counterpart in Holland.
