Courting Courtney is a moving romantic comedy about a woman desperately in search of Mr Right in an ocean of Mr Wrongs. The film makes creative use of a mixture of fiction and documentary. The story is told from the perspective of Nick Hastings (Dana Gould), the best friend and confidant of Courtney Baker. It starts just after Courtney's 29th birthday and ends just after her 30th; no coincidence, because a singlewoman in the nineties is one thing, but a single woman in her thirties is quite different. It isn't easy for Nick to have a friend like Courtney. At high school they were once an item, and now he has to watch as one man after another chases after her, each unsuitable as partner. With a crew of beginners, a cast of fresh naive-looking actors and a little luck, Paul Tarantino managed to capture on film the emotional adventures of Courtney. Courting Courtney was shot in only nine days in and around Hollywood. The director scraped together the very meagre budget of 28,000 dollars from small loans and thanks to the blessing of the credit card. The adventures of Courtney are presented with great humour, supported by fine acting especially by the two protagonists.
