Aus dem Zeitalter des Übermuts takes the form of a very personal, autobiographical travel diary. The pictures have the mood of a home movie and the film seems to stand in the respectable avant-garde tradition of the travelogue. But in this programme, none of the films can be trusted. In addition, Klaus Wyborny mocks himself, and that does not fit in with this serious genre. Or should we really believe that an unknown woman paid for him to go on a jaunt to Egypt only to fuck her atop a pyramid? Despite the humorous tone of the narration, Wyborny places himself in the grand tradition of allowing poetic licence with the truth of personal experiences, as Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Goethe were wont to do. A tradition that died in the reckless hippy era according to the film-maker. (GjZ)
