Unusual documentary without the usual interviews and with only indirect or ironic narration. The maker travelled without a plan, aim or message to the Polish region of Silesia. The political unrest - the area used to be part of Germany and there are those who want the border moved East - left her completely unaffected. Shooting on 35mm, was able to film the smog-filled valleys of the coal-mining area as romantic landscape paintings. And above all she was able to film people without the intrusiveness of news crews. It often looks as if she just put her camera down somewhere and waited until someone happened along.
