Ramon is Dostoyevsky's Raskolnikov in present-day Lima and is tormented by his family. In his desperate attempts to keep his end up, he commits a deed he regards as liberating and justified. He comes into contact with two people who radically influence his life: the young and pure Sonia, who seduces him, and the stubborn policeman Portillo, with whom he has a strange love-hate relationship. It looks obvious that Ramon has to learn to cope with the fact that his own sensitive and generous nature clashes with the reality of unjust surroundings of which he forms part.
