The rough New Zealand family drama was a box-office hit in its own country to match Jurassic Park ! certainly thanks at least in part to its action scenes, the exciting soundtrack and the interest in the exotic and mystical culture of the Maoris. Beth and Jake have been married fairly monotonously for 18 years. While Jake turns to drink, Beth is left at home with five children. Jake is the kind of man who has animal magnetism and for his drinking buddies he is the guy who never lost a fight. He is unemployed and spends his little money in the bar. His short temper has alienated him from his children, who despise him because he often beat their mother. His violent lifestyle slowly starts to take its toll.
