Marcos Gonzales, an impulsive Bohemian, is suspected of a crime he didn't commit. He decides to go into hiding until the misunderstanding is cleared up and goes to stay in the village of Muerdago with his uncle Ramon, whom he hasn't seen for years. Ramon is a very rich man, has no children and is ill. Marcos' arrival is a pleasant surprise for him, but the other relatives are more interested in the inheritance and are less enamoured of Marcos' arrival. Marcos' frivolity and vitality - and the lies he has to tell - clash with the rigid social structure and the dullness of the small community and the relatives who feel threatened. Amalia, a cousin by marriage, and her daughter Lucero, however rediscover the romance and excitement that has been gone from their lives for so long. This new situation and its passions lead to crimes.
