In a dark and damp hiding place in the devastated town of Vukovar, a boy meets a girl. She is alone and has lost her whole family. He loses a fatally-wounded friend and listens to the melody from the girl's cassette recorder. Slowly the horrors of war drive the boy mad. Some time later, the boy bumps into the girl again, now in Belgrade. He is a soldier sent home from the war and she is a refugee. He can no longer settle in with his friends andbreaks off the engagement with his girlfriend. His only company is a veteran from Vukovar. The girl wildly roams the streets of Belgrade. She doesn't want to talk to him and denies she ever met him. But when the veteran commits suicide, only the girl knows what he was going through. Then romance blossoms anyway. Their salvation?Director Novkovi : 'I didn't want to confront people with political ideas or judgements; I wanted to look at the pain in my heart. This film is the fulfilment of my moral duty to the next generation, the "misled generation".'
