Dream, reminiscences and immovable reality; The Secret Life of Houses shows the intriguing yet painful attempts of a girl to understand the world around her.The single mother of 9-year-old Margaret is admitted to hospital. Margaret doesn't tell anyone she is alone at home. Once she is on her own in the house, she tries to clarify her relationship with her mother and she reconstructs the life of an adult in a house filled with memories.Her daydreams become more violent. She believes with increa¡sing obstinacy that she can persevere in her lonely 'secret' life. Until her aunt Fergie arrives. She has been informed that the condition of Margaret's mother is deteriorating fast and thinks she can exploit this situation. Lawyers arrive, boxes are packed. Suddenly the house is no more than a collec¡tion of boxes to be sold. Margaret is expected to move in her with her disturbed father. But with her back to the wall, Margaret again acts to order her world.
