Libera me

On the basis of the themes oppression and resistance, Cavalier composes in Libera me a liturgy without words. Without using psychological or narrative aids, the film reflects the intelligence of the heart and the changing disposition of the spirit. The film is a non-ecclesiastical version of the Passion of Christ and refers to a period of concentration camps and violent dictatorships. He concentrates on the humility of people and things. Cavalier follows the most tangible traces of human existence. And in a magic way he allows the indescribable - that what cannot be reduced to the word of writing - to appear in every image of his film. Wounded, tied and beaten, a fist is raised in the heart of the film - a woman's handkerchief tied around the wrist - to brave the dark time. (RP)
