Kalifornia, Dominic Sena's feature-film début, is filled with heated, explosive sexuality and black humour; a combination of fear and beauty.Brian Kessler (David Duchovny) has written a publication that fills him with pride. He argues that lust killers should notbe jeered but rehabilitated. Their deeds do not emerge from themselves, but are determined by external, social factors. The issue fascinates him greatly, just as greatly as his girlfriend is fascinated by the provocative sexual scenes she photographs. Yet despite the fact that they both have their fascinations, they are in a rut and decide to head for California. On the way they want to visit and photograph the spots where famous murders took place. Their only problem is that they don't have much money, so they take the ex-criminal Early Grayce (Brad Pitt) and his girlfriend Adele (Juliette Lewis) with them. It turns into a journey past geographical and emotional ups and downs.Senna: 'Early is a real 3D character; his ambivalence fascinated me. The film sees America's fascination with violence through the eyes of Brian and his girlfriend Carrie.'
