This documentary about the first pioneer of Egyptian film-making, the long-unknown Mohamed Bayoumi, is a subtle investigation into the life of the painter, photographer, poet, circus manager, actor and founder of the first film institute in the Middle East.It was possible to trace a number of copies of the very first Egyptian films, dating back to 1923, for the film. Wonderful archive material is included of the first two silent films from Egypt. Mohamed Bayoumi is literally a quest during which the maker finds all kinds of material and talks to relatives of Bayoumi about his life and work.
