Very violent, dramatic love story against the background of two famous neighbourhoods in New York City: Chinatown and Little Italy. On 'Italian' territory, a Chinese restaurant is opened and this causes a war between the different gangs. Like a real Juliet, a pretty Chinese teenage girl falls in love with her Romeo, a pizza-seller. Their love is impeded by the adults and things get hot as the mafia and the Chinese defend their hegemony.'Masterfully directed, uncompromising drama and romance', according to Variety. Ferrara uses a film noir style, with many dark scenes and wet streets. Much of the cast could be seen just before shooting in Michael Cimino's Year of the Dragon.
