The strength of this extremely short film is in its simplicity and literal and metaphorical broad gesture. Across the full width of the cinema screen, Hazekamp shows in [Cinema]scope format for most of the time two pages from an anthology of poems by Carlos Drummond de Andrade with the same title as the film. There is plenty of time to read the poem. The visual interpretation of it by the film-maker is subtly in a kind of brief prologue. The interpretation precedes the reading.Hazekamp calls the film, which he made for the Dutch arts prize the Prix de Rome, 'a brief remark on filming poems.
